We've all been taught that we should help people. It is the right thing to do and will make us popular with others. It may even win us favors in return. However, we must be realistic. We can't say yes to every request. If we did, we would fail or go crazy for sure. Sometimes we simply don't have the time to help. In this case, we must know how to say no politely.
When we need to say no, here is one method we can try. First, we should tell the truth. If we really can't do something, we should just say so. Second, we should remember to refuse requests politely. We must communicate clearly, but must also be sincere and sympathetic. A true friend will understand. Finally, we must not feel guilty about saying no. Sometimes refusing others is the right thing to do. It can save ourselves, and them, a lot of trouble. In short, we cannot please everyone all the time. Refusing favors is a part of life.
Youth
Youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind ; it is not rosy cheeks , red lips and supple knees, it is a matter of the emotions : it is the freshness ; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life .Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of the appetite , for adventure over the love of ease. This often existsin a man of 60 more than a boy of 20 . Nobody grows old merely by a number of years . We grow old by deserting our ideals.
Years wrinkle the skin , but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul .Worry , fear , self –distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust .
Whether 60 of 16 , there is in every human being ‘s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of what’s next and the joy of the game of living . In the center of your heart and my heart there’s a wireless station : so long as it receives messages of beauty , hope ,cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite, so long as you are young .
When the aerials are down , and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old ,even at 20 , but as long as your aerials are up ,to catch waves of optimism , there is hope you may die young at 80.
Thank you!

Dear:
“Once upon a time, there was a king who had a daughter as beautiful as a blooming rose. To all the suitors who came to the king’s palace to ask for the hand of the princess, the old king assigned three tasks to be accomplished, each next to impossible. One day, into the king’s palace came a handsome young prince…" Well, you know the rest. The three tasks may be different in different versions, but the main plot is always the same, with the prince claiming the princess’s hand triumphantly.
And the ending is always the same, finishing with the line "And they live happily every after."
Why aren’t we tired of something so fanciful,so unrealistic, and,I would say,so unimaginative? How can a story like that endure generations of repetition`?Because,I think,it is a typical success story. It is highly philosophical and symbolic. By implication,we see a 4—step definition of success:1)a goal to be set. as represented by the beautiful princess;2)challenges to be met,as represented by the three tasks;3)the process of surmounting difficulties,as represented by the ordeals the youth goes through;and 4)the reward of success,as represented by the happy marriage.
The story not only caters to everyone’s inward yearning for success, but also emphasizes the inseparability of the process and the result. The reward of success will be much amplified if the path leading towards it is treacherous, and vice versa. If a person inherits his father’s millions and leads an easy life,he is not a successful person even in material terms, because there are no difficulties involved in his achieving affluence. The term "success",to be sure. will not sit still for easy definition. But as I understand it,the true meaning of success entails a combination of both the process and the satisfactory result of an endeavor. To clarify my view, let me give another analogy.
If we changed the rules of football, greatly enlarged the goal and sent away David Seaman or any other goal keeper,so that another David, namely David Beckham, could score easily, then scoring would not give him the thrill of accomplishment and the joy that it brings. If we further changed the rules by not allowing Arsenal’s defenders to defend,so that Beckham needed only to lift a finger, actually a toe,to score, then there would be no game at all, because the meaning of winning would have disappeared. In accepting the challenge,in surmounting the difficulties and in enduring the hardship, success acquires its value. The sense of attainment varies in proportion to the degree of difficulties on overcomes.
The concept of success is not constant but relative because the nature of difficulty is also relative. Something you do effortlessly might pose a great difficulty for a handicapped person. In acquiring the ability to do the same as you can,he or she achieve success. That’s why we greatly admire Stephen Hawking, because, though confined to a wheel chair,he has contributed greatly to the field of science.
I myself,a rather shy person by nature who easily suffer from stage fright, had to pluck up great courage to take part in a speech contest like this. I could have stayed away and had an easy time of it by not entering the university level contest. But I chose to accept the challenge and to face the difficulties. Now here I am. If I come out first,it will be a great success for me. If I come out last—I hope this will not be the case—but if I come out last,I will not call my attempt a failure, but will also celebrate it as a true success, because part of my goal is my own character training—to do more assertive,to be brave in face of difficulties. For me,it is a meaningful step forward, small as it is,in the long journey toward the final success in my life, because I have truly gained by participating.
Let us return to our handsome young prince and the 4—step definition of success. You my have noticed that the usual worldly criteria of wealth, position and fame were not mentioned as part of the story, but rather,it emphasized the process of overcoming difficulties. The ancient wisdom had already defined the meaning of success, and this is my definition, too.

Is it good for students to do some housework.
Some people think studengts need not do any housework. They think the only thing students need do is to study well. I dont think so. It is good for students to do some housework for three reason.
Firstly,to do some housework can make you independent. You cant depend on others all your life. So,you should learn to do some housework now.
Secondly, to do some housework can keep you healthy and strong ,some hard housework can be regarded as a kind of physical exercise.
Finally, to do some housework can share your parents work. They must be happy if you say” Have a rest, and I will do the housework”
So I think it is good for students to do some housework.

As food is to the body, so is learning to the mind. Our bodies grow and muscles develop with the intake of adequate nutritious food. Likewise, we should keep learning day by day to maintain our keen mental power and expand our intellectual capacity. Constant learning supplies us with inexhaustible fuel for driving us to sharpen our power of reasoning, analysis, and judgment. Learning incessantly is the surest way to keep pace with the times in the information age, and an infallible warrant of success in times of uncertainty.
Once learning stops, vegetation sets in. It is a common fallacy to regard school as the only workshop for the acquisition of knowledge. On the contrary, learning should be a never-ending process, from the cradle to the grave. With the world ever changing so fast, the cease from learning for just a few days will make a person lag behind. What's worse, the animalistic instinct dormant deep in our subconsciousness will come to life, weakening our will to pursue our noble ideal, sapping our determination to sweep away obstacles to our success and strangling our desire for the refinement of our character. Lack of learning will inevitably lead to the stagnation of the mind, or even worse, its fossilization, Therefore, to stay mentally young, we have to take learning as a lifelong career.

In China, almost every family has TV set in their house. Television has made great contribution to people’s daily lives and children’s education. Some people even think that television is one of the greatest inventions in the world.
But there is a good side and a bad side to everything and that includes the television.
On one hand, TV is a powerful educational tool that through it people know what is happening in the rest of the world. Because of television, people begin to understand different cultures and current affairs.
They know about the things they never knew before, they create their own opinions and form their sense of worth. The TV opens a brand-new door for them to explore the things they want to know. Many people may go traveling due to watch the beautiful scenes in TV.
On the other hand, some people may find them addicted to television, especially the young people.
They spend most of their free time watching TV programs instead of playing outside with their peers.
In this case, the children may lack of the ability of communicate effectively with others.
TV makes them isolated. What’ more, sometimes the TV programs may contain se-xual scenes or bloody scenes that not suitable for children to watch.
This will cause negative effects on them.
To sum up, I think television has both advantages and disadvantages, people should find a balance between it. Make the most use of it, don’t be the salves of it.

and see no end to the landscape, new objects presenting themselves as we advance; so, in the commencement of life, we set no bounds to our inclinations. nor to the unrestricted opportunities of gratifying them. we have as yet found no obstacle, no disposition to flag; and it seems that we can go on so forever. we look round in a new world, full of life, and motion, and ceaseleprogress; and feel in ourselves all the vigor and spirit to keep pace with it, and do not foresee from any present symptoms how we shall be left behind in the natural course of things, decline into old age, and drop into the grave. it is the simplicity, and as it were abstractedneof our feelings in youth, that (so to speak) identifies us with nature, and (our experience being slight and our passions strong) deludes us into a belief of being immortal like it. our short-lives connection with existence we fondly flatter ourselves, is an indissoluble and lasting union-a honeymoon that knows neither coldness, jar, nor separation. as infants smile and sleep, we are rocked in the cradle of our wayward fancies, and lulled into security by the roar of the universe around us0we quaff the cup of life with eager haste without draining it, instead of which it only overflows the more-objects prearound us, filling the mind with their magnitude and with the strong of desires that wait upon them, so that we have no room for the thoughts of death.

good morning, ladies and gentlemen.
we've gone from losing 9 million jobs during the financial crisis to creating 10 million jobs. we've reduced the unemployment rate from 10% in october of to 6.1% today. and for the first time since the 1990s, american manufacturing is steadily5 adding jobs-over 700,000 since . and surveys of both american and foreign business leaders confirm that america once again is viewed as the best place in the world to build and invest.
that's all good news.
but an awful lot of middle class americans are still not feeling the effects of this recovery. since the year , gross domestic product-our gdp - has risen by 25%. and productivity in america is up by 30%. but middle class wages during that same time period have gone up by only fourteen cents.
folks, it's long past time to cut the middle class back into the deal, so they can benefit from the economic growth they helped create. folks, there used to be a bargain in this country supported by democrats6 and republicans, business and labor7. the bargain was simple. if an employee contributed to the growth and profitability of the company, they got to share in the profits and the benefits as well. that's what built the middle class. it's time to restore the bargain, to deal the middle class back in. because, folks, when the middle class does well, everybody does well-the wealthy get wealthier and the poor have a way up.
you know, the middle class is not a number. it's a value set. it means being able to own your home; raise your children in a safe neighborhood; send them to a good school where if they do well they can qualify to go to college and if they get accepted you'd be able to find a way to be able to send them to college. and in the meantime, if your parents need help, being able to take care of them, and hope to put aside enough money so that your children will not have to take care of you.
that's the american dream. that's what this country was built on. and that's what we'redetermined8 to restore.
in order to do that, it's time to have a fair tax structure, one that values paychecks as much as unearned income and inherited wealth, to take some of the burden off of the middle class. it's time to close tax loopholes so we can reduce the deficit9, and invest in rebuilding america - our bridges, our ports, our highways, rails, providing good jobs.
with corporate10 profits at near record highs, we should encourage corporations to invest more in research and development and the salaries of their employees. it's time for us to invest in educational opportunity to guarantee that we have the most highly skilledworkforce11 in the world, for 6 out of every 10 jobs in the near term is going to require some education beyond high school. folks, it's long past due to increase the minimum wage that will lift millions of hardworking families out of poverty target poverty and in the process produce a ripple12 effect that boosts wages for the middle class and spurs economic growth for the united states of america. economists13 acknowledge that if we do these and other things, wages will go up and we'll increase the gross domestic product of the united states.
my fellow americans, we know how to do this. we've done it before. it's the way we used to do business and we can do it that way again. all the middle class in this country want is a chance. no guarantee, just a chance.
americans want to work. and when given a fair shot, the american worker has never, ever, ever, let his country down. folks, it's never a good bet to bet against the american people.
thanks for listening.

The road of history is not level and smooth all along. Sometimes the path will come to a dangerous and difficult place.
It is only with the valiant and gallant spirit of the travelers that it can be passed through.
The vast and mighty Yangtzi River, when it comes to an endless, broad plain, will flow ten thousand miles in a rapid current. But as it reaches a narrow valley with high ranges of mountains, cliffs and precipices on both sides, which look dangerously steep, the river has to force its way through them in a winding, tortuous course. The same is the case with the developing course of a nation's history.
The history of human race is like going on a journey. Some of the places the traveler passes through are smooth and level pianos, and others are dangerous and rugged paths. The experienced travelers, when they moved on to a broad, level road, will naturally walk along with a light heart, but while they are passing through a rugged place they will all the more be seized with curiosity, and in such an extremely fantastic and magnificent realm, will all the more feel a sort of pleasure in an adventure.

As the pace of life continues to increase, we are fast losing the art of relaxation.Once you are in the habit of rushing through life, being on the go from morning till night,it is hard to slow down. But relaxation is essential for a healthy mind and body.
Stress is a natural part of everyday life and there is no way to avoid it. In fact, it is not the bad thing as it is often supposed to be. A certain amount of stress is vital to provide motivation and give purpose to life. It is only when the stress gets out of control can it lead to poor performance and ill health.
The amount of stress a person can withstand depends very much on the individual. Some people are not afraid of stress, and such characters are obviously prime material for managerial responsibilities. Others lose heart at the first signs of unusual difficulties. When exposed to stress, in whatever form, we react both chemically and physically. In fact, we make a choice between "flight or fight"and in more primitive days the choices made the difference between life or death. The crises we meet today are unlikely to be so extreme, but however little the stress, it involves the same response. It is when such a reaction lasts long, through continued exposure to stress, that health becomes endangered. Such serious conditions as high blood pressure and heart diseases have established links with stress. Since we cannot remove stress from our lives (it would be unwise to do so even if we could), we need to find ways to deal with it.

DENVER — Parents and survivors of the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School are saying good things about an essay released Tuesday by the mother of shooter Dylan Klebold.
Susan Klebold made the most detailed public remarks by any parent of the two Columbine killers in an essay published in O, The Oprah Magazine. She said in the essay she had “no inkling” her son was suicidal or depressed.
The essay sparked strong emotions for Connie Michalik, whose son, Richard Castaldo, was shot and partially paralyzed in the rampage. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris killed 12 students and a teacher and wounded 23 others before killing themselves.
The shooters’ parents have said little in public since the massacre. They gave depositions in a lawsuit filed by victims’ families, but a judge in 20xx ordered those depositions sealed for 20 years after the case was settled out of court.
Survivors and their families have been left wondering about the boys’ parents in the decade since the shootings.
“You know, I always wondered how she felt and what she went through. ‘Cause I know I went through a living hell, and I was always sure she did, too,” Michalik told The Associated Press.
Michalik, who has never met Susan Klebold, said reading the essay answered some of her questions about the Klebold family.
“I applaud her for the courage to talk about this,” Michalik said Tuesday.
In the essay, Susan Klebold described the day of the shooting. She at first feared Dylan had been shot at school, not that he was one of the perpetrators.
Susan Klebold said the family was evacuated from their home the afternoon of the massacre because authorities feared even Dylan’s residence may have been rigged to explode. Still, she said, it took months for relatives to accept that the quiet boy who loved origami and Legos was to blame for the violence.
“We didn’t know that he and Eric had assembled an arsenal of explosives and guns,” Susan Klebold wrote. “We believed his participation in the massacre was accidental or that he had been coerced. We believed that he did not intend to hurt anyone.”
The magazine released excerpts from the essay last week and published the full text Tuesday.
A magazine spokeswoman said Susan Klebold has turned down several interview requests over the years but agreed several months ago to share an essay. There were no plans for her to appear on the show.
In an introduction to the essay, Oprah Winfrey told readers, “Since the day her son participated in the most devastating high school shooting America has ever seen, I have wanted to sit down with Susan Klebold to ask her the questions we’ve all wanted to ask — starting with, ‘How did you not see it coming?’ and ending with ‘How did you survive?’”
A spokeswoman for Susan Klebold has said there would be no further comment.
One of the shooting’s survivors, Krystal Miller, said Tuesday she has long had questions for the Klebolds but understood their silence.
“Over the years I would’ve loved to hear something,” said Miller, whose maiden name was Krystal Woodman. “But it sounds like she is still just reeling from it and processing it. So how is someone supposed to come out and give answers when they’re still trying to figure it out themselves?”

In recent years, college students find it increasingly difficult to get a job. It sounds strange since young college students are usually intelligent, well-educated phenomenon, aspirant and eager to bring their talent into full play. Then what underlies the strange phenomenon? high. All they want are “good” jobs which could offer good salary, comfortable working conditions, high social status among others. Consequently, most college students are unwilling to accept vacant jobs they consider not “good” enough. Another reason is that there is a big gap between the majors some students study in school and the demands of vacant jobs. So companies think some students are not fit for the jobs.
Solution to the problem requires efforts on both the society and the students. The companies should value the students, talent and knowledge while the latter should not merely aim at material gains. They should be down-to–earth in building up their career. Furthermore, they should face their weak points so as to improve themselves and be more competent.

I don't know what to say. I didn't know that there would be a podium with a microphone. I thought I would just be singing songs. Not to downplay that, but ...
Oh, my goodness, what an honor. I am just so humbled and excited to be here looking out at all of you.
Being back here on campus is ... I feel so proud to have studied here. And ... that's 16 years ago, but ... I used to come to Symphony Hall every weekend and get those rush tickets, the student packs, and watch the Boston Symphony Orchestra perform as often as possible, often by myself.
And it was one of the highlights of my time here at Berklee, so being here on stage is really unreal. Walking around on campus today was a testament to how far Berklee's come in the last 16 years. It is beautiful, the campus, the facilities. I was walking by the MP&E, the studios, the equipment, the fitness center. We didn't have any of these stuffs. So I guess you guys have been doing a pretty good job. So thank you, and congratulations to that. What a time for the East and West in music, in pop culture.
All of you, music lovers, future musicians, future professional musicians on the stage, and like what Roger just said, it's so important for us to be ambassadors, to be that bridge, to be ambassadors of peace, and breaking down the walls, bringing people together. Last night ... this is an issue that's so close in my heart, because last night in Los Angeles, my dear friend Jackie Chan was the first person ... first Chinese actor ever to win an Oscar, last night! I just want to thank all of you for being here, that's why we make music, is to connect with people.
I've never written a song without loving it myself. So for all of you musicians, always follow your heart and always do what you love. I've definitely ... you know ... never convince yourself that what other people are telling you to do is right if you don't feel like it's right in your heart. As a musician, it just doesn't work.
So work like a bull, I guess ... and always have fun. And all the accolades don't mean anything without your friends and your family to share with. So Thank You to them as well for being here together, and always.

There is a saying goes,"life without a friend is a life without a sun",that isTo say,Friendship is indispensable to people's life. Friendship is to our life what salt is to dasher. When you are happy, friendship is just like adding flowers on the brocade; when you are sad, friendship is a dose of consolation; if you are in trouble, friends will surround you and remove the barriers for you; if you have a hard nut to crack, you can turn to friends for help. Every one need friends, and if you fail to make friends, you should examine yourself and see if there is something wrong with your personality. Maybe you have social faults such snobbishness, talkativeness and using slang etc. All of that will drive your new acquaintances. Whatever your social faults may be, look at them honestly and make real effort to correct them. However, what’s actual difficult is that friendship is easier made than e are several important elements necessary to maintain a good friendship. There is not even one person in the world who is know your own shortcomings,so don't expect perfection from others.I'm not saying that you should always accept a wrong doing on your friend's them when you didn't like something and be always ready to make up 't hold grudges in your will help your friend to be long-suffering with you as well.

Time on housework will be rewarding Being gradually aware of the significance in children’s involving in housework, parents are changing from a role of overprotection to a more reasonable level of encouraging initiative participation in household chores.
It’s inspiring and meaningful to see that children are no longer deprived of their rights to develop practical skills in housework, instead, they are given the chances to contribute their shares and are often rewarded with a spiritual fulfillment. Fortunately, I’m one of the countless teenagers who have benefited a great deal from this kind of perceptual transition of our parents.
I have frequently been encouraged to deal with cooking the meal, sweeping the floor as well as washing dishes since an early age of seven. And I am proud enough to take the responsibility of pparing a good meal when Mom and Dad are delayed by their work.
Thanks to their early realization and ever-lasting persistence in the cultivation of my independence, I have grown more skillful and willing to take my share of obligation either at home or at school.
Pushing the children on their way to housework is initial yet effective if parents tend to ensure a promising future.

May is a symbol of Spring when the wild geese fly north and the gardens are full of flowers.
The general strike of workers for eight-hour workday in 1880s in the western countries gave birth to Labour Day!
We should sow the south mountain after sowing the north mountain. How can we show our favoritism when help our neighbors sow There will be less wasteland if everyone does as what I do. This is a poem which described people’s working life in the mountain area. Their collaboration in working shows their diligent and brave spirit. Work creates man, work creates beauty, and it is also work that creates our better life. Since ancient times, the Chinese create our splendid Chinese civilization with their hands. It is work that gives us the precious material and spiritual wealth.
It is the sweat and diligent work of thousands of workers that build the modern buildings and highways and change wastelands into fertile fields. These workers include our parents, our teachers as well as the cleaners in our school. On the coming of Labor Day, please give our sincere wishes to all the workers when we enjoy this lovely spring and our happy life.
However, there are many students who hate working, they don’t think that learning or tidy up our bedrooms is also a kind of working. If we don’t grasp these little trivial skills, we can’t be an eligible worker in the future. Attitude is everything! If we treat work as making a dish, the proper attitude towards it is the core ingredient of the dish which can make the dish more delicious.
My dear fellow students, let’s take actions from now on to make our classroom full of vitality, keep our classrooms tidy and decorate our dormitories to be more beautiful and comfortable. Let’s learn to respect and love working, I believe our life will be more meaningful for us!

Today I come to Oslo as a trustee, inspired and with renewed dedication to humanity; I accept this prize on behalf of all men who loved peace and brotherhood. I say I come as a trustee, for in the depths of my heart I am aware that this prize is much more than an honor to me personally.
My fellow and my friends;
Once I read a piece of news report. It says, "A middle school student in a remote mountainous area was doing his revision at home one day. His brother, whose age excelled school age, was playing and drawing on the paper with his elder brother's pencil at his side. Suddenly the younger brother raised his head thoughtfully, his little eyes were winking, and said to his brother seriously, "When will it thirty-second, brother?" The elder brother looked at his innocent younger brother and said with a smile, "What are you going to do on that thirty-second?" "Papa promised me to send me to school," said his younger brother. His brother, the middle school student looked at his lovely brother and his heart seemed to be stitched with needles. My God! My parents were working day and night in order to be able to afford my schooling. They were exhausted. How could they afford my younger brother's schooling? Oh, thirty-second ...
My dear friends, hearing this, didn't you feel sorry for them? We share the same native land, the same blue sky under the sun. Why cannot they be given lesson at school, sitting in the bright and big classroom? We are used to saying that education goes first before vitalizing the country. But now the country's fiscal solvency and material resources are not ample enough. What should we do? It requires that we should be of one heart and exert our efforts for our motherland.

Someone said “we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of abook, whose pages are infinite”. I don’t know who wrote these words, but I’vealways liked them as a reminder that the future can be anything we want it tobe. We are all in the position of the farmers. If we plant a good seed ,we reapa good harvest. If we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all.
We are young. “How to spend the youth?” It is a meaningful question. Toanswer it, first I have to ask “what do you understand by the word youth?” Youthis not a time of life, it’s a state of mind. It’s not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips or supple knees. It’s the matter of the will. It’s the freshneof thedeep spring of life.
A poet said “To see a world in a grain of sand, and a heaven in a wildflower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour. Severaldays ago, I had a chance to listen to a lecture. I learnt a lot there. I’d liketo share it with all of you. Let’s show our right palms. We can see three linesthat show how our love.career and life is. I have a short line of life.
What about yours? I wondered whether we could see our future in this way.Well, let’s make a fist. Where is our future?
Where is our love, career, and life? Tell me.Yeah, it is in our hands. Itis held in ourselves.
We all want the future to be better than the past. But the future can gobetter itself. Don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened. From thepast, we’ve learnt that the life is tough, but we are tougher. We’ve learnt thatwe can’t choose how we feel, but we can choose what about it. Failure doesn’tmean you don’t have it, it does mean you should do it in a different way.Failure doesn’t mean you should give up, it does mean you must try harder.
As what I said at the beginning, “we are reading the first verse of thefirst chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite”. The past has gone. Nothingwe do will change it. But the future is in front of us. Believe that what wegive to the world, the world will give to us. And from today on, let’s be theowners of ourselves, and speak out “We are the world, we are the future.”

Hello, everybody! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, everybody. All right, everybody go ahead and have a seat. How is everybody doing today? (Applause.) How about Tim Spicer? (Applause.) I am here with students at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia. And we’ve got students tuning in from all across America, from kindergarten through 12th grade. And I am just so glad that all could join us today. And I want to thank Wakefield for being such an outstanding host. Give yourselves a big round of applause. (Applause.)I know that for many of you, today is the first day of school. And for those of you in kindergarten, or starting middle or high school, it’s your first day in a new school, so it’s understandable if you’re a little nervous. I imagine there are some seniors out there who are feeling pretty good right now -- (applause) -- with just one more year to go. And no matter what grade you’re in, some of you are probably wishing it were still summer and you could’ve stayed in bed just a little bit longer this morning.I know that feeling. When I was young, my family lived overseas. I lived in Indonesia for a few years. And my mother, she didn’t have the money to send me where all the American kids went to school, but she thought it was important for me to keep up with an American education. So she decided to teach me extra lessons herself, Monday through Friday. But because she had to go to work, the only time she could do it was at 4:30 in the morning. Now, as you might imagine, I wasn’t too happy about getting up that early. And a lot of times, I’d fall asleep right there at the kitchen table. But whenever I’d complain, my mother would just give me one of those looks and she’d say, “This is no picnic for me either, buster.” (Laughter.)So I know that some of you are still adjusting to being back at school. But I’m here today because I have something important to discuss with you. I’m here because I want to talk with you about your education and what’s expected of all of you in this new school year. But at the end of the day, we can have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents, the best schools in the world -- and none of it will make a difference, none of it will matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities, unless you show up to those schools, unless you pay attention to those teachers, unless you listen to your parents and grandparents and other adults and put in the hard work it takes to succeed. That’s what I want to focus on today: the responsibility each of you has for your education.I want to start with the responsibility you have to yourself. Every single one of you has something that you’re good at. Every single one of you has something to offer. And you have a responsibility to yourself to discover what that is. That’s the opportunity an education can provide.

Just make to it the finals, they had to get past 60 others speaking on “The impact of globalization on traditional Chinese values”。 That was at the semi-final on April 8-9. What will Chinese college students think about the impact? Each contestant had his own take on the subject. Xia summed up globalization by saying: “It’s just controversial and hard to say whether it is good or bad.” Xia took the old wall of his city, Nanjing, as a metaphor. He spoke about the conflict over whether to protect the old walls or tear them down to represent the conflict of ideas. He suggested that people protect the wall as a valuable relic while tearing down the “intangible walls” of their minds that prevent communication. While some other students are more focusing on the impact of globalization on family relations, attitudes towards love, and job-hunting.
Over the past 10 years, the national English speaking competition has given contestants a chance to speak on a variety of topics closely related to their lives. Chinese students become more open-minded and receive various ideas and thinking over the decade. Diversity becomes more obvious on campus, students have more opportunities to express and show themselves. It’s not an easy task for the contestants to win through the fierce competition. Owning to their passion, hard work and persistence, they finally succeeded in the contest.
Liu Xin, the first champion of the national contest, is now an anchorperson of CCTV-9. Recalling the passion of study on campus, she said: “When you want to express your idea by a foreign language without finding a right way, you’re really upset. Then you have to encourage yourself, and after a long term of bitterness, suddenly you find you get the right way with joy.” With the champion title in 21st Century Cup, Liu attended the International Public Speaking competition in London in May 1996 afterward and got the first prize historically.
The winner in 20xx surprised the audience, since she came from accounting major instead of English major. Gu Qiubei, then 22 years old, was a senior in Shanghai Foreign Studies University. While being asked whether she had some good methods to learn English, she said: “Learn English with passion and enthusiasm.” Attracted by the greatness of English language, Gu even changed her major from accounting to English in her postgraduate study. The most important issue in English learning process she pointed out is personal interests. Only people interested in English benefit a lot from the learning methods and those with passion will finally achieve their dreams.
When chief of global media giant Viacom Sumner Redstone gave a speech in Tsinghua University on his autobiography A Passion to Win, he was asked what made him to restart his career at the age of 60, the 81-year-old media tycoon said: “Firstly, there’s a self-driving force in my deep heart, which keeps my passion to succeed and surpass others; secondly, I don’t think I’m too old to leave work, actually I love my work very much.”
Some of the contestants have achieved their dreams as Redstone; still others are on the way to their dream. With a passion to win, you will overcome obstacles and succeed at the end.
I’m studying in a city that’s famous for its walls. People who visit my city are amazed at the imposing sight of its walls, especially when silhouetted against the setting sun with gold, shining streaks. The old, cracked bricks are covered with lichens and the walls are weather-beaten guards standing still for centuries.
Our ancestors liked to build walls. They built walls in Beijing, Xi’an, Nanjing and many other cities, and they built the Great Wall, which snakes across half our country. They built walls to protect against enemies and evil spirits. This tradition has survived to this day: we still have many parks and schools walled off from the public.
For a long time, walls were one of the most natural things in the world to me.
My perceptions, however, changed after I made a hiking trip to the eastern suburbs of my city. My classmates and I were walking with some foreign students. As we walked out of the city, we found ourselves flanked by tall trees, which formed a wide canopy above our heads. Suddenly one foreign student asked me, “Where is the entrance to the eastern suburbs?”
“We’re already in the eastern suburbs,” I replied. He seemed taken aback, “I thought you Chinese had walls for everything.” His remark set off a heated debate. At one point, he likened our walled cities to “jails”, while I insisted that the eastern suburbs were one of the many places in China that had no walls.
That debate had no winners, but I did learn a lot from this student. For instance, he told me that some major universities like Oxford and Cambridge were not surrounded by walls. I have to admit that we do have many walls in China, and as we develop our country, we must look carefully at them and decide whether they are physical or intangible. We will keep some walls but tear down those that impede our development.
Let me give another example.
A year ago, when I was working on a term paper, I needed a book on business law and found a copy in the law school library. However, the librarian coldly rejected my request to borrow it, saying, “You can’t borrow this book, you’re not a student here.” In the end, I had to spend 200 yuan to buy a copy. Meanwhile, the copy in the law school gathered dust on the shelf.
At the beginning of this semester, I heard that my university had started to think of unifying its libraries and linking them to libraries at other universities, so my experience wouldn’t be repeated. Barriers would be replaced by bridges. An inter-library loan system would give us access to books from any library. With globalization and China integrated into the world, I believe many of these intangible walls will be knocked down.
I know that globalization is a controversial issue, and it is hard to say whether it is good or bad. But one thing is for sure: it draws our attention to China’s tangible and intangible walls and forces us to examine their role in the modern world.
And how about the ancient walls of mine and other cities? Should we tear them down? Definitely not. My city, like Beijing and other cities, is actually making a great effort to preserve the walls. These walls attract historians, archaeologists, and many schoolchildren who are trying to study our history and cultural heritage. Walls have become bridges to our past and to the rest of the world. If the ancient builders of these walls were still alive today, they would be proud to see such great changes in the role of their walls. They are now bridges that link East and West, South and North, and all countries of the world. Our cultural heritage will survive globalization.

This Labor Day weekend, as we gather with family and friends,we ll also come together as a nation to honor some of our own-the working men and women of America who, across the generations, built this country up and helped make us who we are today.
On Monday, we ll celebrate that proud history. We ll pay tribute to the values working Americans embody-hard work; responsibility; sacrifice; looking out for one another. And we ll recommit ourselves to their cause; to securing for them a better bargain so that everyone who works hard in America has a chance to get ahead.See, over the past four and a half years, we ve fought our way back from the worst recession of our lifetimes.
And thanks to the grit and resilience of the American people, we ve begun to lay a foundation for stronger, more durable economic growth. But as any working family will tell you, we re not where we need to be.For over a decade, working Americans have seen their wages and incomes stagnate, even as corporate profits soar and the pay of a fortunate few explodes.
For even longer than that, inequality has steadily risen; the journey of upward mobility has become harder. And in too many communities across this country, the shadow of poverty continues to cast a pall over our fellow citizens.Reversing that trend needs to be Washington s highest priority. It s certainly mine.
That s why, over the past month, I ve traveled all across America, laying out my ideas for how we can build on the cornerstones of what it means to be middle class.A good job that pays a good wage.A good education.A home of your own.Health care when you get sick.
A secure retirement even if you re not rich. And more chances for folks to earn their way into the middle class as long as they re willing to work for it.The truth is, it s not going to be easy to reverse the forces that have conspired-for decades-against working Americans. But if we take a few bold steps-and if Washington is able to come together with common purpose and common resolve-we ll get there.
Our economy will keep getting stronger and more Americans will be able to join the ranks of the middle-class.So this Labor Day, while you re out there grilling in the backyard,or taking that final trip for the summer,I hope you ll also take a moment to reflect on the many contributions of our working men and women.
For generations, it was the great American middle class that made our economy the envy of the world. And as long as I m President, I m going to keep fighting to make sure that happens again.
Thanks, and have a great weekend.

honorable judges, ladies and gentlemen, good morning.
first of all, let me take this chance to present to you a set of data that i hope won't bore you since the source is china daily.
china's tourism revenue last year reached 500 billion rmb, an increase of 10.5 percent from the year before, and comprised more than 5% of china's gdp. according to experts, this number will grow to 8% in the coming ten years and more than 40 million jobs will be created.
as a student majoring in economics, i can't be more sensitive to the essential meanings behind these numbers. they mean progress, prosperity, employment and stability.
however, as a conscientious chinese and citizen of the world, i can't help but care more about the losses incurred in this transaction, by which i mean the disturbing images of environmental destruction, which leads to ecological crisis. the global environment has changed for the worse during the past few years, and tourism is partly to blame. take china for example, in order to attract tourists, many unknown places are built into resorts. forests are cleared, prairies trampled, rivers and lakes 6)contaminated, wild animals are driven away, plants jeopardized and secluded populations disturbed.
if this seems too remote and abstract, my own traveling experience may speak louder here. last year i took a tour around emei mountain in sichuan province. like most tourists, i was eager to embrace nature and enjoy its beauty. however, as soon as i got on the bus, the stench of gasoline and the noise of the engine tainted my appreciation of the wonderful scenery and the tranquility of the country road. when we finally arrived, what i saw was not a beautiful landscape but crowds of people; what i heard was not the melodious singing of birds, but yelling and bargaining from the gift shops; what i smelled was not the fresh mountain air, but stinking suffocating smoke coming out of small dirty restaurants. moreover, i could not understand why the lovely monkeys living there had to take photos with tourists all day; why the beautiful butterflies and flowers had become lifeless samples in shop windows; why the strongest impressions i had was trash scattered everywhere on the ground.
however, this is not the end of the story. before i left emei, i met a group of kids in an ecotourism program with the slogan: “experiencing, learning and protecting.” when i saw their young hands picking up trash from the ground, when i felt their enjoyment and harmonious relationship with the animals, when i found their purest eyes filled with passion and love for nature, i realized to my great satisfaction that there doesn't have to be a tradeoff between tourism and ecology, because deep within us is an inclination toward natural beauty and a desire to protect it. yes, environmental problems will eventually ease with the advancement of science and technology and improvement of our management system. however, an increase of ecological education and hands-on environmental involvement of our fellow citizens will do even better. to realize this, the best way for us lies in tourism itself because nothing other than nature can teach us how to love and cherish our sweetest home. at the end of my speech, please let me quote bob dylan:
how many roads must a man walk down before you call him a man?
how many times must a man look up before he can see the sky?
how many years can a mountain exist before it's washed to the sea?
the answer, my friend, is not in the wind-the answer is ours! thank you!

My dear friends,
As a country that pays great attention to courtesy, our cuisine culture isdeep rooted in China''s history. As a visitor or guest in either a Chinese homeorrestaurant you will find that table manners are essential and the distinctivecourtesies displayed will invariably add to the enjoyment of your meals and keepyou in high spirits!
On the eighth day of the last month in the Chinese lunar calendar, peoplewill enjoy a nourishing porridge called ''La Ba Zhou''. In ancient times, monkswould kindly share all sorts of food grains with people and made them flavorfulporridge on this particular day. People still keep this convention.
In Central China, when a baby is born, the happy father will send redboiled eggs to announce the news. Eggs with a black pointed end and dots in aneven number such as six or eight, indicates a boy''s birth; those without ablack point and in an odd number like a five or seven will say the baby is agirl.
In addition to these, fish has always been used to suggest the accumulationof prosperity and wealth with meals on New Year''s Eve.

Let me begin my speech with a replay of scenes familiar to most, if not all, of those present here today.
"Mum, I'm sorry, but I need 3,000 yuan for my tuition this year."
"Mum, it is my friend's birthday tomorrow, I must buy her a present."
"Mum, this jacket was out of fashion long ago, would you do me a favor? "
Take. Take. Take. The relationship between a mother and a child always seems to follow such a pattern. I know my mother is always there for me, providing me with everything I need; from food to clothing, from tuition to pocket money. I never thought twice about all she did until one day she said, "Will there be a time that you'll say you have taken enough from me? "
Like a child endlessly asking, we humans, throughout history, have been continually demanding what we desire from nature. We enjoy the comfort and beauty of our furniture, yet we never bother to think about the serious soil erosion caused by deforestation. We take it for granted that we must warm ourselves in winter times, yet we seldom realize the burning away of precious natural resources. We appreciate all the prosperity from the development of modern industry, yet few would give the slightest consideration to the global air and water pollution caused by industrial wastes. Our ruthless exploitation has permanently impaired our mother earth. As we tragically learned from last summer's floods. we cannot continue our carelessness.
Finally, standing here at the threshold of the 21st century, we cannot help thinking of our posterity. Nature is not only the mother of the present generation, but also the mother of the generations to come.
How severely our descendents will criticize us if we leave them a barren and lifeless mother? How much more they will appreciate us if we give them a world of harmony to inherit? Let us start respecting and caring for nature from now on. Let us start the campaign of creating a mutually beneficial relationship between people and nature right from this moment. With this new start, I firmly believe, that our children, and our children's children will live in a brand new age of green trees, clean air, crystal water, blue sky and an even more promising world!

The day before yesterday, someone gave me a phone call.he said“che ,i am your leader, come to my office room right now”so i felt anxious and said”who are you?and what did i do?”.he just said”i am just your leader”.i realized he is a cheater.so i said”i will call the police”he hung up immediately.so i felt scared.and i have a question:who leak my information? Ten years ago,i have never thought our personal information is important.but now if your phone number is leaked, you will be drowned in a sea of junk short message.the ID card number is one of your most important personal information.because your bank card, driving license, student card and personal resume are both binding to your ID card number.so if your ID card number leaked, that completely is a disaster. How did my information leak? In some film, a hacker use a computer attack a website and get many information.that is true.many computer virus can do this.and today is the age of big data, a good hacker can get your password from your other information.for example,a hacker build a false website, and you register for an account.the hacker would get your password and your email address. Sometimes the password is your bank account password. He just need to send you a e-mail with computer virus.your bank account and password will be leaked. So what should we do to protect our information security? First of all we shouldn’t tell others our personal information.most of the information leakage event is from our carelessness.besides,we shouldn’t register for an account easily.and i still hold a belief on don’t using number is the best way to protect information security
